Course Description

Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT) is increasingly recommended by Traffic Commissioners’ across the UK for new and existing licence holders.

The road transport industry is one of the most heavily regulated in the UK and staying on top of the often-complicated legislation is vital if you are to avoid the pitfalls of non-compliance.

Many operators remain unaware of the legal obligations that they are required to adhere to when applying for an operator licence.

Led by one of our expert advisors, you will comprehensively cover the operator licencing system, looking at what is required to maintain a compliant operation.

This course is particularly useful for restricted licence holders who may not have a formally qualified transport manager working in their business. These licence holders are expected to have a ‘responsible person’ who assumes similar duties as a transport manager and therefore, it is important that they are equipped with the necessary knowledge.

Course Content

The course looks at several areas relating to the effective management of vehicles covered by an operator licence such as:

• Why the operator licencing system exists and how it works
• How to comply with the undertakings on your operator licence
• Examples of robust systems to control drivers’ hours, defect reporting and more
• Expected duties of transport managers
• What DVSA examiners look for when conducting any investigations
• Explanation of all latest legislation relating to the operation of goods vehicles

What You Can Expect

The course will be held at our facilities in Rutherglen, Glasgow. Our premises are located a short distance from the Polmadie junction on the M74. 

Registration is open from 8:30am with your course scheduled to start at 9:00am. There will be two 15-minute breaks in the morning and afternoon, and a 30 minute lunch interval. Lunch and refreshments will be provided and are included in the price.

Our courses are interactive and are composed of presentations, exercises and video clips. There are short question papers at the end of each module to confirm knowledge transfer - these are not exams and your hours will be uploaded irrespective of your score. 

Your course certificate will be emailed to you upon completion.
